Arc II — Stand The Wall

Clean answers are a luxury purchased with other people's dead. He stood at the threshold of a hospital intake bay while his Operator's body was being used as a speaker by a ninety-one-year-old summoner-priest in a fallen city's lineage, and he made the most consequential commit of his career in two paragraphs and four minutes.▶ listen02The RacePD 606 · Day 5 · 11:35 → 17:30 — six hours in which the deal closes inside its own window and a man walks out of Sebastopyr to die freeing his bindsThe hunt-clock and the deal-clock close on the same window. Mnehmos has four hours fifteen minutes to put stages three and four into a ninety-one-year-old man's head while a younger summoner of a younger school pulls the wards apart from three kilometres east. Mnehmos chooses the hard line. He teaches at the limit of safe pace, braces with his body when the wards crack, and stands while Ardin endures a compel-working for twenty-eight minutes. Ardin wakes whole. Tibor walks out with him. While he ate breakfast a runner came across the chalk line with Brunna's release. While he rested at the chapel side the cohort settled into a rhythm and Renata moved through her ward and leveled. While he walked the cloister at evening Hana removed her wedding ring and Ardin kissed it once. Then the cavalry caught him. Then he died. Mnehmos took the news standing in the refectory at eleven on the dot of Day Seven and said three words and then was quiet for an hour.
