Overview

Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes, convicted of seditious conspiracy for his role in January 6, was accused by his ex-wife Tasha Adams and their six children of years of domestic violence, including choking his teenage daughter and routinely brandishing a handgun during arguments.

Description

In a 2018 divorce and subsequent 2019 petition for a temporary restraining order, Tasha Adams described Rhodes as a ‘complete sociopath’ who emotionally and physically abused her and their children for years. She described a 2016 incident in which Rhodes choked their teenage daughter, and a pattern in which whenever he was unhappy with her behavior he would ‘draw his handgun (which he always wears), rack the slide, wave it around, and then point it at his own head.’ Rhodes’s children Dakota, Sedona and Sequoia Adams spoke publicly to the Southern Poverty Law Center about enduring emotional, psychological, financial and physical abuse throughout their childhood, including physical abuse disguised as ‘martial arts practice.’ Rhodes was convicted of seditious conspiracy in November 2022 and sentenced to 18 years in federal prison in May 2023. He was among the January 6 defendants pardoned by Trump in January 2025.
