Overview

Federal prosecutors charged West Virginia delegate and public-school teacher David Elliott Pritt with enticement of a minor in July 2026. The official federal court page identifies the matter as case 2:26-mj-73. Pritt resigned his House seat on July 27.

Description

The allegations concern communications with a 15-year-old girl. Pritt withdrew from the November 2026 House ballot on August 4, according to West Virginia Watch. The West Virginia Secretary of State also announced an August 7 State Election Commission meeting to consider requests to disqualify him from the ballot under state election law.

These are criminal allegations, not a conviction. The defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

August 2026 Update

The August update is the ballot withdrawal and related election-law process. Future revisions should add any indictment, plea, trial, or court disposition separately from the initial charging documents and political consequences.
