Jeremy Durham

Overview

Tennessee Republican state Representative Jeremy Durham, who co-sponsored the state’s anti-transgender ‘bathroom bill,’ was expelled from the Tennessee House on September 13, 2016, by a 70–2 vote after an Attorney General investigation found he had engaged in ‘sexual interactions’ with 22 women. It was the first expulsion of a sitting Tennessee legislator since 1980.

Description

A July 2016 report from the Tennessee Attorney General’s special investigation concluded that Durham had sexually harassed at least 22 women, including a 20-year-old college student who told investigators Durham plied her with a cooler full of beer and had sex with her in his legislative office in 2014. Durham resigned as House Majority Whip in January 2016 when initial allegations surfaced, but refused to resign his seat; the House voted to expel him in September. In October 2023, Durham was indicted on DUI, aggravated-assault, and drug-paraphernalia charges after a 2023 incident. In May 2025, he was convicted of felony reckless endangerment and his law license was suspended.
