Overview
Oklahoma Republican state Representative Dan Kirby faced a sexual-harassment claim from his former legal assistant Hollie Bishop, who said he harassed her and then fired her in November 2015. The Oklahoma House secretly paid Bishop a $44,500 settlement using taxpayer funds.
Description
Bishop, 28, said Kirby, then 58, sexually harassed her and then fired her without explanation in November 2015. The Oklahoma House paid $28,414.20 to Bishop and $16,085.80 to her attorneys — a total of $44,500 in taxpayer money — to settle the claim. Kirby said he learned of the settlement only by reading about it in The Oklahoman in December 2016. He initially resigned but then rescinded his resignation. The speaker-elect authorized the House Rules Committee to investigate. Kirby denied the allegations and did not seek re-election in 2018.
