Republican businessman and activist Mark A. Grethen was convicted in 2001 of six counts of sex crimes involving children (two counts each of forcible sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, and indecent liberties with a child). He was sentenced to 26 years in prison. Shortly after conviction, he was briefly named “Republican of the Year” in 2002 by the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Republican businessman and activist Mark A. Grethen was convicted in 2001 of six counts of sex crimes involving children (two counts each of forcible sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, and indecent liberties with a child). He was sentenced to 26 years in prison. Shortly after conviction, he was briefly named “Republican of the Year” in 2002 by the National Republican Congressional Committee. He was killed in prison in 2021.
