Department of Homeland Security Deputy Press Secretary Brian Doyle was arrested on April 4, 2006, for attempting to seduce what he thought was a 14-year-old girl (actually an undercover sheriff’s deputy). During online sexual conversations, Doyle revealed his DHS employment, title, and phone numbers, compounding the breach of trust. He was charged with 23 felony counts of attempted enticement of a minor and other offenses. He was convicted and sentenced on November 17, 2006, to 5 years in federal prison with 10 years supervised probation. He was released on January 15, 2011. The case highlighted security vulnerabilities within the Department of Homeland Security.
