Bishop Daniel Paprocki of the Diocese of Springfield, Illinois has been accused of protecting pedophile priests and enabling abuse within the Catholic Church. Under Paprocki’s leadership, the Springfield Diocese was the last in Illinois to disclose a list of clergy with substantiated child sexual abuse allegations (posted in November 2018). Even when disclosed, the list lacked transparency regarding parish assignments. Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has investigated whether the church properly handled sexual abuse cases. Paprocki has also engaged in partisan political action, ordering priests to deny Democratic politicians communion.
