Republican politician and Missouri House candidate Andrew Buhr was charged in 2002 with two counts of first-degree sodomy with a 13-year-old boy. He was appointed by President Bush to the Commission on Presidential Scholars in November 2002 but lost the position within a month when the charges were filed. A mistrial was declared in January 2004 after he claimed he thought the boy was older.
