John Jones was chief of intelligence and counterterrorism for the Texas Department of Public Safety. He was a vocal supporter of Trump’s anti-immigrant policies and border wall. In 2021, he was charged with possession of child pornography. Jones had been a prominent figure in Texas law enforcement and conservative circles. The charges were later dropped, but the case damaged his reputation.
