Overview

Cody Wilson, founder of Defense Distributed and high-profile 3D-printed firearms advocate, was indicted in December 2018 for sexual assault after paying a 16-year-old girl $500 for sex in an Austin hotel room. He fled to Taiwan, was arrested there, and deported. He accepted a plea deal with probation in 2019.

Description

In August 2018, Wilson met a 16-year-old through the ‘sugar-daddy’ website SugarDaddyMeet.com and paid her $500 for sex at an Austin hotel. Police issued a warrant for his arrest on September 19, 2018, but by then Wilson had flown to Taipei. The U.S. State Department cancelled his passport, leaving him without a valid visa; Taiwanese authorities then detained and deported him. On December 28, 2018, a Texas grand jury indicted Wilson for sexual assault, a second-degree felony. He accepted a plea deal in September 2019 that included probation, and subsequently rejoined Defense Distributed in a leadership role.
