Overview

Lake Forest, California city councilmember Benjamin Yu (R), representing District 2, has been arrested on domestic-violence allegations on multiple occasions, including once for violating a restraining order. He was granted admission to a military diversion program in lieu of standard prosecution.

Description

In July 2023, Yu was charged with misdemeanor corporal injury on a spouse/cohabitant and false imprisonment. He was also arrested by Irvine police in October 2021 on two DUI misdemeanor counts. He was later arrested a second time for domestic violence after deputies responded to a call on Freemont Street, where a woman was found with a bruise to her head; Yu was accused of violating a restraining order. Orange County Superior Court Judge Scott Cooper granted Yu’s motion for admission to a military diversion program to resolve the drunken-driving case and multiple domestic-violence cases together.
